A gameplay frame is two pictures at once: you in a corner, the game filling the rest. Crop that to the middle for vertical and you lose one of them, usually your face.

We stack them instead. Your facecam is lifted out of its corner and enlarged across the top. The gameplay sits underneath at full width with nothing trimmed, and we check the cam is really there through the clip before we do it.
